Welcome to the website of musician and piano teacher, Henry Salmon. Here you will find information on teaching as well as all the latest news including new ventures into piano tuning.
I have been teaching piano for 10 years and have enjoyed seeing the progress of many students develop into musicians.
I have a PGCE in Secondary Music and a wealth of experience of teaching students of all ages. I believe when learning piano it is important to get as much enjoyment as possible and that as the teacher, it is my job to enable this whilst ensuring each student progresses with their musicianship. It’s when students gain confidence in becoming a musician, that they realise there is a lot more enjoyment that can be had!
It is important to get to grips with the basic aspects of music when you start learning. This includes basic notation, chord progressions and some theory. Using my own composition of resources, students learn these skills that provide the basis for all pianists.
I am happy to take students through ABRSM or Rock School grades, but also happy to help students achieve personal goals too.
I have a full DBS enhanced certificate and happy to supply details on request.

Piano tuning is an art and a delicate skill that takes time to master, using traditional methods of tuning including intervals of 4th and 5ths and tuning them by ear. I have recently begun an apprenticeship with Chris Teuton, himself a former student and employee of Steinway London, who has over 30 years’ experience tuning, repairing and reconditioning pianos.
When tuning pianos it is important to take into account the age of the piano, the condition of the strings and the temperature of the room. This will determine if the piano can be taken up to concert pitch or to tune it to itself.
The services I can provide are:
- Tuning pianos to either concert pitch or to itself
- Repairing any technical issues including sticking keys and hammer action problems.
As I am currently training, each service I offer is adding towards my skills and experience and therefore currently offering a reduced fee during this time.
£40 per tune
Repair costs are dependent on the work required, please contact me with details and I will send you a free quote. As part of my apprenticeship, if I am dealing with a new type of repair, I will always be accompanied by Chris Teuton, who if fully qualified and will work together to ensure your piano is restored to a professional standard.

For the last 3 years I have been on a journey that has had many high times and difficult times. All these experiences have brought me to this point, with songs of personal thoughts and prayers that have been through my mind and collected with this up-coming album “Holding out the Grey”.
My first single from the album is available on iTunes. Listen and watch the video here:
